Lying In a Field

Lying in a Field
by Greg Englesson
Smoke stacks belch soot to the heavens
smell of plastic burns the senses
cars line up along the free way
cacophony swells through air waves
I’m lying in a field
sun streams through your hair
everything seems so surreal
how I wish you were here
sky scrapers scratch sacred air space
people pound pavement in mad race
hear the airport in the distance
day dreams shatter in an instance
I’m lying in a field
sun streams through your hair
everything seems so surreal
how I wish you were here
Information jams up my mind
lose the soul focusing on time
ticking fast watch what your missing
you can hear it if you listen
I’m lying in a field
sun streams through your hair
everything seems so surreal
how I wish you were here

Mother Earth
by Greg Englesson
Swim to the ocean
sway with the tide
float on in motion
feel yourself glide
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother, Mother, Earth
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother. Mother, Earth
Twist round the fire
burn down in side
down to the wire
let yourself ride
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother, Mother, Earth
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother. Mother, Earth
Breath in the air
let your mind go
dance everywhere
let yourself grow
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother, Mother, Earth
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother. Mother, Earth
Dance in the dirt
grass growing green
release the hurt
make the love scene
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother, Mother, Earth
Mother, Mother, Mother
Mother. Mother,
Earth

Tax The Rich

Tax the Rich
by Greg Englesson
Talking ‘bout economy
well it’s getting real bad
gotta help them overseas
and at home it’s kinda sad
homeless and the hungry
well we’ll tax the middle class
rich get fat on gluttony
sitting on their cash
Why not tax the rich? Tax them out the ass
Standing in the check out line
prices hit the sky
watch the seconds ticking time
whose on T. V. guide?
riddles ringing rhythm rhyme
worked so hard your fried
a man begs you for a dime
you hang your head and hide
Why not tax the rich? Money and their pride.
Tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich
Listen to the evening news
they say buy a car
pay the bills and sing the blues
as they interview a star
government is in a stew
sip beer at the bar
just a cancer that it grew
Mr. Money has gone to far
Why not tax the rich? You know who you are
Tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich

Disney's On Ice

Disney’s On Ice
by Greg Englesson
Da Da Da Disney’s on Ice
He’s dreaming of some mice
he’s got an animated scene
on your cinematic screen
Mickey, Donald, and Goofy
living at the movies
made a million bucks
that mouse dog and duck
The employees are a working
just keep the coffee perking
making more and more
for Disney to adore
All in his own name
he’ll absorb all of the fame
they figured we’ll share in all the wealth
lets’ drink to Disney’s health
Da Da Da Disney’s on Ice
he’s dreaming of some mice
it was his brother Roy
who had a strategy to employ
We’ll carve the company into shares
this Walt Disney had to fear
for he wanted complete control
to fulfill his corporate goal
Roy said cut the staff and wages
though themselves they had their raises
so the workers went on strike
this Disney did not like
He said of all the luck
so I didn’t create that duck
we’ll have to pay the cost
but I’m still the freak’n boss
Da Da Da Disney’s on Ice
he’s dreaming of some mice
he’s got himself a vision
on your local television
He grew thin, big and grand
and created Disneyland
he wanted the whole world
but his head began to whirl
He caught a bad disease
that put him on his knees
before the gods of science
those stupid mental giants
He thought why can’t I live forever
I mean I should because I’m clever
maybe with a dash of salt
they could freeze him in a vault
Da Da Da Disney’s on Ice
he’s dreaming of some mice
thaw him out some decades later
in a suit of alligator
He’s the mastermind behind
the empire in a grind
he should of taped all his decisions
to fulfill his corporate visions
For those who seized control
didn’t have the soul
so they’ve got things in a mess
boy how could Disney rest
Will he come again
our animated friend
Disney’s on Ice
Disney’s on I I I Ice..

Shove It

Shove It
by Greg Englesson
I've been working on a pension
but I just don’t care
I’ve got my bliss to follow
I’m out of here
Take this job and shove it
shove it where the sun don’t shine
I’ve got bigger fish to fry
and they are on my line
I don’t know where I’ll get a pay check
but it wont be here
because that pain in my neck
is now down in my rear
Take this job and shove it
shove it where the sun don’t shine
I’ve got bigger fish to fry
and they are on my line
I might not make the unemployment
but I’ll have my dignity
might not make the mortgage payment
but my soul will be free
Take this job and shove it
shove it where the sun don’t shine
I’ve got bigger fish to fry
and they are on my line
I had a nice salary
that put me on my knees
I’ve got no time to enjoy
this marvelous misery
Take this job and shove it
shove it where the sun don’t shine
I’ve got bigger fish to fry
and they are on my line
take this job and shove it

SOB ... SUV
by Greg Englesson
I was driving down the highway in my hybrid
munching on my lunch of tofu mayo and bread
I got off at the exit and I sat at the light
I couldn’t read the sign due to obstructed sight
that SOB in that SUV....right in front of me I could not see
that SOB in that SUV....right in front of me I could not see
I rolled down my window, stuck me head out to look
that gas sucking sucker roared shook and booked
I got a face full of mud and a breath of exhaust
I followed fast in my silence until I got lost
that SOB in that SUV....right in front of me I could not see
that SOB in that SUV....right in front of me I could not see
I wanted to give that big guy a piece of my mind
I put the petal to the medal and lagged a mile behind
saw that SOB guzzle fuel at the station
I pulled in and got out in my trepidation
that SOB in that SUV....right in front of me I could not see
that SOB in that SUV....right in front of me I could not see
I tapped on the tinted window ready to fight
it came on down with a surprise to my sight
a 99 year old lady with a fist full of cash
said, “ fill up my second tank sonny, with premium gas “
That weren’t no SOB in that SUV.... just a little old lady you could not see.
That weren’t no SOB in that SUV.... just a little old lady you could not see.

Dying For A Cigarette
by Greg Englesson
I’m dying... for... my cigarette
die die die die die dying...
dying to forget... that cigarette
another puff another drag
fingers fidget and flick the fag
ashes dash into the tray
sucking twenty butts a day
I’m dying... for... my cigarette
die die die die die dying...
dying, but I ain’t dead yet
huff and puff and puff and huff
my throat, it feels so rough and tough
walking up a flight of steps
coughing hacking in distress
I’m dying... for... my cigarette
die die die die die dying...
dying, but I ain’t dead yet
I need that tar and nicotine
look like that add in that magazine
yellow nails yellow teeth
bind my hands fast to my feet
I’m dying... dying to forget... that cigarette

Velvet Elvis
by Greg Englesson
One night I was looking out my window
and I saw a bright light descend from the sky
I got down upon m knees, folded my hands and cried Hallelujah
as that space craft hovered over my trembling body
a door opened and standing there omnipotent and divine
was the second coming of the king of kings... Elvis
Velvet Elvis...Velvet Elvis ... Velvet Elvis....
In my Pelvis...
Velvet Elvis... Velvet Elvis... Velvet Elvis...
In my Pelvis...
Well he brought me on board and introduced me to
Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin,
John Lennon, Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan.
We ate sushi with plastic forks and
roasted marshmallows in the bright light.
We talked about things, You know , the state of the world
and whether grunge, rap and hip hop was still hip with the college kids.
He gave me a velvet numbered painting he did of himself
and asked me if I had any questions I ‘d like to ask him.
and I said, “How do you do that thing with your pelvis Elvis?
Velvet Elvis...Velvet Elvis ... Velvet Elvis....
In my Pelvis...
Velvet Elvis... Velvet Elvis... Velvet Elvis...
In my Pelvis...
I got a velvet Elvis hanging above my vanity
it’s him that I am and him that I see
because he zapped me with some kind of an alien apparatus
kind a looked like a fungus but had the flatulence of a radish
I ain't' nothing but a hound dog in blue suede shoes
under a blue moon of Kentucky
ready to shake, rattle an roll
as a sneer appears above my lip
I get an itch in my hip that twitch
and my ducks ass is as slick a shine-o-la
Velvet Elvis...Velvet Elvis ... Velvet Elvis....
In my Pelvis..
Velvet Elvis... Velvet Elvis... Velvet Elvis...
In my Pelvis...

This Ain’t The Way
by Greg Englesson
In the morning... when the moon goes down
I come up from... the underground
then by noon... I’m up and off to work
at the hotel... hell I am the clerk
Hey..... ..Hey....... this ain’t the way
we’ve gone astray....... who’s gonna pay
In the morning... when the sun burns up
I rest my head... to the grind of the cars and the trucks
busy buzz... on the subway train
have a coffee... to ease the aches and the pains
Hey..... ..Hey....... this ain’t the way
we’ve gone astray....... who’s gonna pay
make our money... spend it all day long
the weekend comes... we find it’s gone
wake up now... it’s time to rebel
against the wars...and worries of this hell
Hey..... ..Hey....... this ain’t the way
we’ve gone astray....... who’s gonna pay
All the plants and... animals are dying
but the human... being keeps on trying
keep production ... up and spirits down
thats why what we... need cannot be found
Hey... Hey... this ain’t the way
this ain’t the way
This Ain’t The Way!

That Last Phone call
by Greg Englesson
I just walked into the wall
thinking about that last phone call
how you wrecked my happiness
spun my life into this lonely mess
that last phone call
keeps ringing in my ear
that last phone call
left me crying in my beer
now I’m moping up the tears of pain
I toss and turn alone in bed again
I project memories on my wall
thinking about that last phone call
that last phone call
keeps ringing in my ear
that last phone call
your voice I can still hear
can’t you even face this fractured face
shed a little bit of that charm and grace
the things you said to hurt me so
helped you get the nerve to let me go
with that last phone call
it felt a bit to mean
that last phone call
you left on my machine

Let the Angels Rain

Let The Angels Rain
by Greg Englesson
As I walk Along this Earth
kicking up the dust and stone
I wonder about my worth
and if I am not alone
I reach my sight over the seas
feel a chill bite to my bone
and i just wonder what will be
when these seeds are fully sown
Let the angels rain on me
kiss the devil set him free
let the angels rain
let them ease the pain
As the air on which I chock
burns it’s way into my lungs
I feel the sun inside my throat
as I hear the blasting of big guns
marching off to distant war
this simple song I do strum
Pandora’s box cracked opened door
into the nation of the dumbed
Let the angels rain on me
kiss the devil set him free
let the angels rain
let them ease the pain
I saw an angel from the sky
bleed face down in the mud
she just could not shake the lie
as she tried to spread the love
no one saw her in the way
no one heard her call
there black and white turned dismal gray
as they all felt her silent fall
Let the angels rain on me
kiss the devil set him free
let the angels rain
let them ease the pain
let them make me sane
let me off this train
free the beast they cannot tame
Let the angels rain...
